Our aquatics department, complete with certified swim instructors and American Red Cross Certified lifeguards, is dedicated to providing top-quality classes and training. In addition to being Infant Swim of America certified, our  instructors are able to teach swim lessons to all ages and abilities.

Many aquatics fitness classes are available for you to drop-in, while others, such as swimming lessons require advance registration. Stop by The Kroc Center for a complete schedule of drop-in activities, or view the current class schedule.

The Quincy Kroc Center Swimming Program is recognized by the USA Swimming 'Make A Splash' program.

Make a Splash is a national child-focused water safety initiative created by the USA Swimming Foundation.

HOW TO REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR SWIM LESSONS

• Evaluate your child’s swim ability and choose a class level, date, and time from the listing below.

• On lesson day, check-in to your class at the Welcome Desk, and then make your way to the pool (downstairs). Don't forget to bring a towel.

• At the end of the set of lessons, your instructor will recommend the appropriate class level for the next set of lessons. Class levels are frequently repeated to allow students to master skills and feel successful before moving on to the next level.

PARENT & CHILD SWIM LESSONS
Tadpoles  12-23 months
Frogs  24 months-3 years

Instructor-led classes introduce swimmers to self rescue techniques, swim strokes, along with games that focus on water comfort and basic swim skills. Taught in a small class setting.

 

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS
4-6 Years

Introduces beginning swimmers to the water in a fun setting. Participants learn strokes, floating, and water safety through play and creative repetition. Suitable for kids who can attend class independently (parents are not present in this class).

Goggles optional.

Continuing stroke development, your child will transition out of simple flotation to become an independent swimmer. Suitable for kids who can swim with their face in the water, who can float on front and back with no assistance.

Goggles required.

Swimmers refine basic strokes like freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, while developing endurance and improving breathing patterns. Suitable for kids who can swim 1 length of the pool (freestyle with rotary breathing & backstroke).

Goggles required.

SCHOOL-AGE
7-11 Years

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
12 months-4 years

Certified ISA instructors teach infant swim recovery techniques to help reduce and help prevent accidental drowning.

15 minute lessons.


4 Years & Up

Private or semi-private swim lessons are available for participants of any ability, for water therapy and learning.

30 minute classes.

Swim Lessons for All Ages & Abilities

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Courses

LIFEGUARDING COURSE
MUST be 15 yrs old by end of class
Gold:
$120, Silver: $140, Non-Member: $200

Teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.


The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies in order to prevent drowning and injuries. Certification valid for 2 years. Most nationally recognized lifeguard certification.

Participants must pass prerequisite testing to continue in the course. (75% reimbursement if the participant does not pass the prerequisite test.) Must be able to attend the entire course.

LIFEGUARD INSTRUCTOR COURSE
Ages 17 yrs and up
Member and Non-Member:
$350

Lifeguard instructor course trains instructor candidates to teach Red Cross lifeguard lifeguarding, shallow water lifeguarding, aquatics attraction lifeguarding, waterfront skills, waterpark skills, first aid, CPR/AED for professional rescuers, administering emergency oxygen and bloodborne pathogens. This course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course.
